Benefits Of Fire Sprinkler Systems
Casualty Reduction
A survey carried out in an American town indicates that
sprinklers virtually eliminate fire deaths. This is borne out a
newly published report, which states that during the 10 years
covered residential fire sprinklers reduced deaths by 97.5 %.
Although sprinklers are not commonplace in US dwellings, the US
Government is supporting a nationwide campaign - Operation Life
Safety - to encourage their installation. In one town American town,
all new homes built in the last 13 years have been required to be
fitted with sprinklers. Sprinklers now protect 40% of the dwellings
in this town. A 10-year report, recently published showed:
- No fire deaths
- 80% reduction of fire injuries
- 80% reduction in property damage
- 95% reduction in water usage for fire control.
Research has shown that sprinklers can have a fire under control
within 20 seconds, which could prevent many tragedies occurring as
well as limiting the damage caused to property.
Fire sprinklers only use 10% of the water used by the Fire
Service when dealing with an average fire. |
