Don't Dismiss Sprinklers

There's more risk of a calamity with Central Heating, and it won't put out a fire. Some of the misconceptions about fire sprinklers:

Myth: "Sprinklers Go Off By Accident".

Fact: Our commissioning and maintenance procedures are extremely thorough, and odds against accidental discharge are 1 in 16 million.

Myth: "Sprinkler Systems Are Ugly".

Fact: Forget commercial sprinklers in shops and warehouses. In a home, sprinkler heads lie flush with the surface, and the cover plates can match the interior colour scheme.

Myth: "Sprinklers are activated by smoke".

Fact: Sprinklers are activated by heat, NOT by cooking of cigarette fume.

Myth: "If one sprinkler goes off, they all will".

Fact: Sprinkler heads operate independently, and only the sprinkler near the fire will open.

Myth: "A smoke detector will do the job".

Fact: Smoke detectors do save lives by sounding an alarm, but they cannot control a growing fire. Even when they are in working order, detectors can do nothing for those dependant on help.

Myth: "Sprinklers flood homes".

Fact: A sprinkler is only activated in the event of fire, when the spray will be most welcome. A wet carpet or bed is preferable to fire and smoke damage and personal injury - A fire service hose discharges approximately 10-20 times more water than an activated sprinkler.

Myth: "Sprinkler systems are expensive".

Fact: Not so, You can protect your home and loved ones for the money you might spend on a new carpet. The costs come down considerably for several homes of the same design. If incorporated into new buildings, sprinkler systems may even save developers money.
